Vanguard boss in 4-1
Easy Strategy
If you are looking for an easy way to beat Vanguard in 4-1, look no further! Simply pull out your best bow and attack him at long range. He will never have a chance of ruining your day. Easy way to get souls!
Standard Strategy
You only get one attempt at the Tutorial version of Vanguard. If you fail, you will need to wait until the 4-1 version of Vanguard to beat him. To make this fight as simple as possible, stay behind him as much as possible. Outside of his butt slam, there is not much he can do when you are behind him. Bait out as many butt slams as you can, attacking him 2-3 times per cycle. His melee attacks are very slow and easy to strafe. Stay on his sword arm side and strafe around (counterclockwise) to his backside. With some practice, you will get Vanguard down in the Tutorial.
No Hit / Flawless Strategy
The no hit or hitless strategy for Vanguard is essentially the same as the standard strategy. Stay on his sword arm side and strafe around to his backside. You can safely attack him twice after a butt slam. It is typically safest to only attack once after other boss animations. It is a long fight in the Tutorial, but easy to learn.
